Overview of Role

Are you up to the challenge? Can you solve problems never seen before? Do you want work on the leading-edge technology in the semiconductor industry? Do you want your circuits enabling all the electronics around you? If so, we have a position for you.

TSMC Canada is looking for engineers with a range of experience to work on high-speed circuit design and join its leading-edge memory design teams. The designer will be involved in the research and design of the projects on the world’s most advanced Gate-All-Around CMOS processes. This will involve everything from architectural studies to the detailed implementation of the high-speed circuits down to the transistor-level. One can expect these designs to result in mainstream products in mass production and not just be academic exercise.  Applications using TSMC’s memories vary from Neural Nets to Mobile-Phones to High- Performance-Computing to Internet-of-Things. Depending on the experience of the candidate, the mandate will be extended appropriately.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will join a world class R&D design team. Their primary responsibility will be to invent and optimize circuits to maximize for the best balance of power, performance, and area possible in TSMC’s advanced next generation, process nodes, in collaboration with researchers at other TSMC sites across the world. Daily tasks might include circuit design, analog simulation, functional verification and transistor level implementation, optimization, and verification.

Skills

  • A good knowledge semiconductor physics, circuit theory and CMOS circuit implementation
  • In-depth knowledge of CMOS logic design and optimization at the transistor level
  • Proficiency with Custom/Analog design tools and fast simulators
  • In-depth knowledge of full-custom layout and the impact of layout on circuit performance
  • Understanding of digital and analog design (e.g. Flip-Flops, Level-Shifters, Pumps, Regulators, etc.) is an asset
  • Scripting and programming skills to automate complex design tasks are highly desirable (e.g. Perl, Python, TCL) plus Linux and Windows environments
  • Knowledge of ASIC flow (RTL, synthesis, timing closure)
  • Proficiency with Verilog language and with digital simulators

Education

  • MSc EE or PhD EE preferred
